Plot: After a holiday in Ibiza, Jericho is diagnosed with HIV. Through him we experience the difficulty and hardship that accompanies the disease in modern Britain and on a wider scale across the world. He re-evaluates his life, it’s friendships, trust and love and emerges hopeful and optimistic for the future.
Synopsis: Jericho is a handsome, attractive young man who has a strong group of friends and is waiting for his life to take shape after leaving drama school. When he returns from a holiday with his friends he undergoes an STD test after his friend contracts crabs. On hearing the results he learns he is HIV positive. This shatters his existence and we follow him as he is educated about the virus and it’s impact both physically and socially on the rest of his life. He visits a support group where he finds friendship and encouragement from other positive people as well as engaging in debate about the wider picture and the effect of the virus on society and the negative connotations it brings. Jericho finds his life influenced by a number of other individuals, both young and old with HIV. Jericho marvels at the courage of those who have coped with the condition for over a decade while he himself eventually comes to console those who have only been diagnosed for a few months. Over a period of some years we follow Jericho as he navigates his personal life and his future while coming to terms with the living with the virus. He re-evaluates friendships and lovers, his family and most importantly himself. At the climax to the piece what materialises is a sense of clarity and honesty that the virus has brought about. Coupled with the advice of an enigmatic stranger, Jericho leaves the audience with not only a notion of hope and triumph against adversity but with an education into a subject which is much neglected in the media.
